We enjoy pastoring Gethsemane, because
we see where we have been and where
God is taking us now!

Gethsemane has transformed its approach
to ministry through the years while still
holding firm to our message.  We are
contemporary and casual in our dress and
concept of church while maintaining our
desire for a genuine, intimate and vibrant
relationship with God through Jesus.

You'll find relevant messages on Truth
that have stood the test of time, but are
as current as today's sunrise.  Heartfelt
worship and dynamic ministry are available for the whole family.  Your
children -- from nursery through adulthood -- will find ministries that will
keep their attention and motivate them toward a close and personal
walk with God.

Our greatest desire is to equip people to see the possibility of being a
part of something much bigger and more important than they've
dreamed. The Bible calls it “the Body of Christ.”  We simply call it our
Church Family.   Please join us and discover your place within God's
family!

About Us
Youth Pastors Mark & Nancy Gerner
Mark has been on-staff at Gethsemane
since 1984; he and wife Nancy have
been investing in the lives of youth for
over 25 years, serving as Youth Pastors
here since the mid-1990s.

A University of Evansville graduate,

Mark
was the first to bring Contemporary
Christian Music to the Tri-State via a radio
show in the late '70s; he also promoted
Christian concerts for several years.  Today, Mark and Nancy concen-
trate on training this generation to mobilize and reach others around
them for Jesus Christ!
THE TRUTH ABOUT MANKIND
Mankind was created in the image of God, but fell into disobedience of God’s will and lost
relationship with Him.  The cure comes with faith in the sacrificially shed blood of Jesus and His
resurrection.  Without faith (believing in God), it is impossible to please God.  Salvation redeems
us from the curse of poverty, sickness and death.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
The Bible is the mind and heart of Jesus Christ.  God is revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Christianity has no meaning outside of Jesus Christ; He is the cornerstone of Christian faith.  We
believe Jesus’ deity, yet humanity.  Jesus was born of a virgin, performed miracles, and though
tempted to sin, lived a sin-free life.  His life made Him eligible to be mankind’s "sacrificial lamb" to
pay the penalty for mankind’s sin.  He (Jesus) was crucified without cause; after He was crucified,
on the third day and by the Holy Spirit’s power, He was raised from the dead.  We believe in
Jesus’ soon-coming return as King of kings and Lord of lords.  Jesus is uniquely qualified in all of
human history as humanity’s only hope of salvation.  The Holy Spirit’s position glorifies Jesus
through His church.  He dwells in believers, guiding empowering us in service to God.  He gives
various gifts, including supernatural wisdom, knowledge and faith, miracles, the discerning of
spirits, healings, prophecy, and various kinds of tongues.  Believers are encouraged to receive
the Holy Spirit’s gift; the initial evidence of this is speaking in tongues and having a bold witness
of God to the world.

WATER BAPTISM
Because water baptism is an outward expression of an inward spiritual reality, we direct and
encourage believers to be baptized.  We celebrate this rite of the Church regularly.

COMMUNION
We normally offer the Lord’s Supper the first Sunday of each month, encouraging all believers to
participate in this time of worship and remembrance.

WORSHIP
Praise gives honor to God, yet prepares our hearts to receive from Him.  We invite Guests to join
with us in honoring God in worship.

PRAYER
Within a service or on special days, there may be times of corporate prayer led by leaders.
Smaller groups also meet at special times and are posted in the bulletin when scheduled.

MEMBERSHIP
Connections is a series of classes held, periodically, to give individuals the opportunity to find out
more about why we believe what we believe.  It's an intimate and casual time of teaching and
answering of questions, taught by Pastor Culbertson.  At the end of the class, participants are
given the option of becoming members of Gethsemane.

MISSIONS
We believe in outreach, encouraging our members to minister in their families, work places and
schools, and even on foreign fields.  We’re also actively involved in supporting ministries across
the globe, supporting missionaries to Mexico, India, Ethiopia, Costa Rica, the Philippines and Haiti.

MISSION TRIPS
At all levels, Gethsemane is involved with the work of missions.  Financial and prayer support is
important, but we also encourage members to consider short-term mission trips.  The Pastors,
adult and teen groups have taken mission trips to Haiti, Estonia, Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica,
New Orleans and Bolivia.

ELDER CARE OUTREACH
Reaching out to people who are unable to come to church  is our way of showing the love of
Jesus through teaching and music. Gethsemane ministers in several nursing home facilities and
senior apartment complexes.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Being a witness of Jesus is important to individuals, but for the church as well. Gethsemane works
to be involved in various community projects, both being visible witnesses and behind the scenes.
